English criticism of Tottenham's Harry Kane, Dele Alli 'strange' - Pochettino

Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld

Mauricio Pochettino hits out at The FA for the "embarrassing" social media post mocking Harry Kane after Tottenham's loss to Manchester United.

The FA then poked fun at Kane on Twitter after last weekend's FA Cup semi-final - an incident that particularly enraged Pochettino.

"We have written to both clubs to apologise for any offence caused", an FA spokesperson said.

"Yes, for me it was embarrassing and it was a shame because the FA is English football, and a potential captain at the World Cup, Harry Kane... It is hard to understand, very hard and they have apologised about that", he said.

"The situation disappointed me".

"Of course they apologised about that".

Pochettino's criticism comes not long after a multitude of social media mockery of the Spurs forward for appealing a goal against Stoke City earlier this month, in order to be awarded the strike instead of teammate Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham believe they can raise around £50m for the two defenders and Wanyama as Pochettino looks to add fresh blood to his squad in north London, while Dembele may fetch a not-too-shabby £20m as he enters the final year of his contract.

"It is hard because we are assessing him and sure it will be not easy for him to play again this season", said Poch.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he is not anxious about Chelsea catching up.

"It is so hard to understand this tweet from the FA after the game of course", Pochettino said. But he's strong in his mind.

The Argentinian said that Kane had been very sad and that the club is helping him to move on. The fact it happened, then they apologised after a few days. First of all it was to reduce the gap with the top four. "I think the way we are building our success, we are at a fantastic level so it's only (a matter of) time", Pochettino told a news conference ahead of Monday's league game against 12th-placed Watford.
