SpaceX's recycled rocket and spaceship deliver cargo to ISS

Musk aims to make rockets as reusable as commercial aeroplanes bringing down the cost of spaceflight and boosting efficiency

"Watch as we send nearly 5,800 pounds of science, research and supplies to the crew on the International Space Station", said NASA during the launch on its official Facebook page.

SpaceX successfully launched its resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday. The rocket will launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, and if anything interferes with the timing, SpaceX will reschedule the launch for 4:08 PM ET tomorrow.

The cargo ship is scheduled to latch onto the space station early Wednesday, and will stay in orbit for about a month before returning to Earth.

The cargo is being shuttled atop the rocket inside one of SpaceX's Dragon capsules, to the space station where engineers will capture the spacecraft with the Canadarm2 robotic arm, according to a statement by NASA. But the launch - the firm's 53rd to date - also carried some unconventional cargo: an experimental system known as RemoveDEBRIS, which scientists hope will help clean up Earth's space junk-littered upper atmosphere, CBS reports.

The Materials ISS Experiment Flight Facility (MISSE-FF) provides a platform for testing how different materials react to an exposure to ultraviolet radiation, ionizing radiation, atomic oxygen, ultra-high vacuum, electromagnetic radiation, thermal cycles, charged particles and micro-meteoroids in the low-Earth orbit environment.

The Canadian Space Agency's examination Bone Marrow Adipose Reaction: Red or White (MARROW) will take a gander at the impacts of microgravity on bone marrow and the platelets it produces - an impact compared to that of the long-haul bed lay on Earth. These greens will be harvested and eaten by the crew, with samples also being returned to Earth for analysis, NASA said.

NASA pays commercial partners like SpaceX to transport supplies to the station. Mid-day accepts no responsibility or liability for its dependability, trustworthiness, reliability and data of the text.
