There were 17 school shooting ... all before April

Deputies are investigating a shooting at Forest High School in Ocala on Friday

Another school shooting in Florida leaves one student hospitalized.

One student was injured and has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. By 8:42 a.m., Woods said the deputy engaged the shooter and took him into custody. ABC affiliate WFTV 9 reports Forest High School is on lockdown.

The school says shooter and student are both boys. The shooter then dropped what authorities said was a shotgun, ran and tried to hide, the boy told his father. The injured student was taken to a local hospital.

The school was placed on lockdown following the shooting, and several law enforcement agencies are now on the scene.

Police were notified of the shooting at 8:39 a.m., and the shooter was in custody about three minutes later.

A Marion Public Schools spokesman told CNN that the student was shot in the ankle.

Delgrego described the school as "close-knit", and teachers and students have great relationships with each other. He is 17 years old, according to the Ocala Star-Banner.

The shooting came just minutes before a nationwide school walkout that was organized against gun violence.

"I want to assure the residents of Marion County that today, they should be proud of their first responders" because "hundreds of law enforcement immediately responded", Woods said.

Ocala police, the sheriff's office, the Florida Highway Patrol and the FBI were investigating the shooting. The suspect did not resist arrest, Sheriff Woods said.

Ocala police, the sheriff's office, the Florida Highway Patrol and the FBI were investigating. They divided into teams that cleared all buildings, vehicles and the parking lot area.

On Friday, students from across the USA participated in the second National Walkout Day, a protest organised in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas School shooting in Florida back in February.
