Melania Trump Recovering After Going Under the Knife for Kidney Surgery

First Lady Melania Trump underwent surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in a kidney procedure her office announced Monday

Pence told the audience that the procedure was not an emergency and that he was pleased to report that it was a "success and Melania is already on the mend".

The announcement did come as something of a surprise since Mrs. Trump has seemed to be physically fine in her most recent public appearances, which have included a State Visit by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife and her announcement last week of an initiative aimed at combating bullying.

The procedure should have her in the hospital through the week.

The first lady is 48 years old. "However, she will need to stay at the hospital for approximately one week".

Dr. Joseph Bonventre, head of the division of renal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, said it's hard to know from the limited information exactly what Trump's condition and treatment were. Even with traffic, it would only take a maximum of about 45 minutes to drive to the medical center, but the president had other business to take care of, apparently.

President Donald Trump, who raised eyebrows when he failed to mention his wife during his video honoring mothers in the US yesterday, remained at the White House during the surgery.

"The procedure was successful and there were no complications", Ms Grisham said. "It would be a rare kidney condition", Allaf said.

Slovenia-born Melania rose from model to First Lady when her husband, Donald, became the President in 2016.

Her office said she would likely remain at Walter Reed "for the duration of the week".

The relationship between Donald Trump and Melania Trump has reportedly been shaky for sometime.

"These benign tumors can get big enough where they cause bleeding", Rogers said. "Thank you to all of the well-wishers!" the president tweeted.

Melania will spend the rest of the week in hospital.

A sign at the gate to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is seen in Bethesda, Md., Monday, May 14, 2018.

Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt, urologist at Orlando Health in Florida, said, the most common condition he would use an embolization procedure for would be "something called angiomyolipoma, which is basically a benign growth of the kidney that has some fat in it and some cystic components".
