Argentina's national football team has cancelled an upcoming friendly match with Israel, Argentine news sources reported.

Though Argentina have a final warm-up fixture against Israel on Saturday before the action gets under way in Russian Federation, they however hope for fancy chances in Russian Federation, despite struggling to actually clinch a spot, before Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick against Ecuador in the final South American qualifier.

The match was originally slated to be played in Haifa but Israeli authorities contributed funding for it to be moved to Jerusalem, angering Palestinians further following U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of the city as Israel's capital.

Under pressure from pro-Palestine campaigners, Argentina has canceled a controversial World Cup warm-up match against Israel in the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds amid an global outcry over the regime's crimes against Palestinians.

According to reports, the Argentina's football association made the decision to withdraw from the Saturday friendly amid an escalation of violence and criticism.

"They've finally done the right thing", Higuain said in an interview.

"There is nothing "friendly" about military occupation and apartheid", the movement said, which calls for an end to the occupation of Palestine, the right of return for Palestinian refugees, and equal rights for Palestinians citizens of Israel.

Rajoub wrote to Claudio Tapia, the head of Argentina's FA, last week accusing Israel of using the match as a "political tool".

Argentine Football Association vice president Hugo Moyano said threats to the team as they trained in Barcelona were affecting the players' families. Last week, MK Yousef Jabareen, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, met with Argentina's ambassador to Israel and asked for the game to be cancelled.

"The Israeli government is trying to give it political significance by insisting it be held in Jerusalem".

Earlier in the week Rajoub, the top PA soccer official, had called on Argentina to cancel the match, and urged Arab and Muslim sports fans to burn photos and t-shirts of Messi if he attended. The Jewish state considers the entire city its own "indivisible" capital.

Faurie also said players had received threats over playing the game and were uncomfortable with it going ahead. "We ask him not to participate in laundering the crimes of the occupation".
