Big Nabil Fekir update in French press hours after deal collapses

Nabil Fekir

When the deal was not made official on Friday, doubts were cast over the player's fitness as he had suffered a serious injury to his right knee previously.

The 24-year-old Fekir reportedly had his medical with a view to a move for 65 million euros ($77 million), plus eventual bonuses.

In fact, latest reports from RMC Sport claim that the French worldwide has already passed his medical in France, and Liverpool could announce his arrival later today.

"It is being negotiated and I think it will be done". "I spent 15 minutes with him this morning [Saturday], and he's only concerned with the France team".

Nabil Fekir is "optimistic" he will be able to complete a move from Lyon to Liverpool this summer and has had his medical ahead of the transfer, according to President of the French Football Federation Noel Le Graet.

"He passed his medical in Clairefontaine. There is something logical, it has already been done for others".

Liverpool look to have missed out on key transfer target Nabil Fekir, with his side Lyon claiming they have ended discussions.

"It's always like that when you talk about a transfer: each tries to raise his price, to lower his price, when there's a hiccup someone wants it reduced".

Fekir, who scored 18 goals and made a further eight, is now in preparations with France ahead of the 2018 Russia World Cup.

With radio silence from Liverpool, and the club refusing to issue any kind of update on it, it was left for Lyon to break the silence.

"It would be better for him, but he's not perturbed", he said of the No.10.

The French worldwide scored 18 goals whilst chipping in with seven assists, ultimately helping Lyon to secure Champions League qualification as well as giving last season's defending champions AS Monaco a run for their money. The Reds were hoping to conclude the deal before the French squad jets off for their final friendly before beginning their World Cup campaign.
