Chelsea turn attentions away from Sarri in search for new manager

Chelsea FC news Gary Cahill admits 'it has been a strange season' as speculation about Antonio Conte intensifies

It looks probable that incumbent Chelsea chief Antonio Conte will depart this summer, and France Football reported the club's director, Marina Granovskaia, has had contact with Blanc (h/f Football Italia).

Although Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri was the top priority and was nearly set to take charge at Chelsea, the Blues did not accept to meet Sarri's €8 million release clause. However, the Italian club have not yet sacked Sarri and are holding out for the £7m they are entitled to as compensation for him under the terms of his contract.

In his last season with Napoli whilst working with Maurizio Sarri the Argentine broke the Serie A record with 36-goals in a season in just 35 games.

'He's been good for me, I have taken things from him, like I have the [other] managers.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has praised new manager Carlo Ancelotti while taking a swipe at Antonio Conte for being too demanding.

Speaking about being overlooked for worldwide duty in the spring, he said: 'I felt like (my World Cup chances) had taken a knock, missing out on that squad, especially that last squad just before you meet up was kind of a big squad to miss out on. He understood and did so with great tenderness. He did very well, seeing Napoli play is a spectacle. He's not someone who'll use Napoli as a stepping stone. I told him, 'what can I do with €58m?'.

Chelsea have taken a zero-tolerance stance on homophobic language in the past and as it stands, the incident will allegedly count against Sarri if Chelsea decide to part company with Conte in the near future.

Chelsea captain Cahill lost his spot at club level last season and was omitted by Gareth Southgate when the England coach named his last friendly squad ahead of Russian Federation 2018. "The end is Koulibaly".
