Warriors crush Cavs to win third National Basketball Association title in past four years

Warriors sweep away Cavs to win second straight NBA title

Sources tell ESPN, LeBron went about punching a whiteboard in the locker room, seemingly over an overturned foul on Kevin Durant, which ended up influencing the final outcome of the match.

As these playoffs showed - and he himself said - LeBron James remains in championship mode. Not even the most optimistic Cleveland fan could expect that to change in the coming days.

The selfless superstar with the deadly 3-point shot smiled, and Stephen Curry's teammates smiled with him.

It's the Warriors third title in four seasons and sixth in franchise history. But the general feeling around the league is James is gone.

And James wants more rings.

James, 33, said after the game that he had "no idea" if he had played his last game for the Cavs, with speculation that he could move on when he becomes a free agent next month. "I still want to be in championship mode". Despite this, the Cleveland Cavaliers did not steal a single game from the Warriors - on Friday, they were swept out of the playoffs. "So we'll have plenty of time over the summer to talk about what next year's going to look like and what it's going to take for us to get back to this stage next year".

Specifically, Curry doesn't. Which is all the more reason to appreciate him as much as the guy who now lives in National Basketball Association history among the rare few who have not one but two Finals MVPs.

Windhorst pointed to James' unwillingness to shoot from distance later in the series as evidence of how his hand injury affected his play.

That team essentially was built from scratch.

Virtually every word James has uttered over the past week would lead one to believe that he is prepared to leave the Cavaliers. "It makes us come to work and try to play at that championship level every single day, and that's the hardest part". He can orchestrate things almost as well off the court as he does on it.

If so, then perhaps the pull of family will keep him in Cleveland. Others will wait for a more opportune time, a few years from now.

Other teams could emerge.

The Lakers could have enough to sign two max players and could trade for another star-caliber player, with Brandon Ingram and Luol Deng as chips. A James-Paul-James Harden trio in Houston might knock off the Warriors. And it was the first time that a team had lost a finals in a clean sweep since 2007, when the San Antonio Spurs inflicted that pain on... the James-led Cavaliers. The Rockets are arguably James' best chance at another title. This time it was Durant's Warriors doing the sweeping.

Staying in the east would also be of benefit to James. The 76ers and Celtics are the young, up-and-coming teams that are not far off from winning big. They will add pieces.

Many outcomes seem inevitable in retrospect.

The Cavaliers would come no closer in the second half. In this series, it was James, Love and a group of role players trying to do the unthinkable.

James was stellar in defeat, averaging 34 points, 8.5 rebounds and 10 assists in the series.

The Cavaliers clawed back from an 11-point deficit before pulling in front on a slam dunk from James near the midway mark of the second quarter that brought the home crowd to their feet.
