CBS Chief Les Moonves Accused of Sexual Misconduct

"Not long afterward, Jones received a call from Moonves's assistant, who said that she had Moonves on the line". Moonves in a statement to the publication acknowledged trying to kiss Douglas but denied the characterization of it as an assault.

Farrow - who won the Pulitzer Prize in April for exposing Harvey Weinstein's alleged thirty-year history of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape last fall - will also reportedly delve "into the broader culture at CBS" in his new exposé.

The "Six Feet Under" star tells the New Yorker she was called into a meeting with the TV titan while working on a pilot in 1997, where he pinned her down on the couch, kissed her "violently", and pulled up her skirt while thrusting his aroused groin into her.

The article also includes allegations that "60 Minutes" executive producer Jeff Fager made unwanted advances. Many women described CBS News as having a 'frat house atmosphere'. In May, he uncovered allegations of physical assault that forced NY state prosecutor Eric Schneiderman to resign.

A CBS board committee in May turned down the potential merger with Viacom and sued to strip National Amusements of its control of CBS. Still, earlier Friday, CBS released a statement that its independent directors were committed to investigating claims of personal misconduct.

The CBS board's statement noted the timing of the New Yorker article and said that the company's managers continued to have the board's support. It pits Moonves against Shari Redstone, who controls a majority of the voting shares in both CBS and Viacom...

'Ms Redstone has acted to undermine CBS's highly lauded and successful management team in a series of escalating attacks, including by talking to potential CEO replacements without Board approval and deriding executives, ' declares another. Along with that team, we will continue to focus on creating value for our shareowners.

Based on interviews with 30 current and former CBS employees, the story also details allegations that under Moonves's watch, "men at CBS News who were accused of sexual misconduct were promoted" - although it isn't clear whether Moonves personally knew about those allegations at the time.

Other women interviewed by Farrow recalled similar encounters with the CEO, noting that the 68-year-old "physically intimidated them or threatened to derail their careers".

Bizarrely, Moonves, who began his career as an actor, is the great-nephew of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion.

Moonves has been at CBS since 1995.

CBS Corporation is the parent company of CBS News.

According to CBS, there have been no misconduct claims and no settlements against Les during his 24 years at the network. It narrowly retained its ratings crown in the 2017-18 season that ended in May.

He has been married to Julie Chen - host of CBS' Big Brother - since 2004. "Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader", she said in a statement. "He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being", she said on Twitter. "I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement", she wrote.
