Ga. officers use coin flip to determine if woman goes to jail

- The Roswell Police Department placed two of their own officers on paid administrative leave for allegedly deciding the fate of a woman by using an electronic coin flip app.

Body cam footage of the April 7 incident shows Roswell Police Officer Courtney Brown berating 24-year-old hairdresser Sarah Webb, asking her, "So you think driving that fast on a wet road is a smart idea because you're late for work?"

Roswell, GA police made an arrest rather than ticket a driver based on a coin toss.

Charges against Webb were dropped earlier this week. Roswell, Ga. police officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson chose to arrest Webb for speeding after flipping a virtual coin to decide.

The 11Alive Investigators have discovered that Roswell officers recently jailed a woman over a coin flip.

Police Chief Rusty Grant said in an emailed statement Friday that as soon as he found out about the incident he started an internal investigation and put the two officers on administrative leave.

The officers are being dubbed #CoinFlipCops. Brown then arrests Webb, handcuffing her and putting her in the back of a patrol auto.

The television station said Brown opened the app on her phone, after which Officer Kristee Wilson suggested that heads meant arrest and tails meant to release.

"This says tails right?" She cries as she is being handcuffed, and footage from inside the vehicle shows her sobbing in the back seat.

"I'm sorry", Webb responds, voice quaking.

WXIA-TV reported the department denied Webb's request to see the video. An internal affairs investigation is already underway.

"Since this is an open internal investigation, I can not discuss the details of the incident until the conclusion of the investigation", Grant said.

"I have much higher expectations of our police officers and I am appalled that any law enforcement officer would trivialize the decision making process of something as important as the arrest of a person", Grant said.
