Israel Shoots Down Syrian Plane

Israel shoots down Syrian fighter jet for entering its airspace

On Tuesday morning, Israel fired two Patriot missiles at a Syrian Su-22 fighter-bomber jet along the frontier between southern Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The plane was shot down, and at least one person was killed.

The military said it fired Patriots at a Syrian Sukhoi jet "that infiltrated into Israeli airspace".

The sirens were heard in communities in the southeast Golan Heights, not far from the Syrian border.

Israel on Tuesday shot down a Syrian fighter jet that entered some two kilometers Israeli airspace. The plane fell inside Syrian territory, and the fate of the pilots was unknown, Israeli officials said.

Conricus added that the plane was flying towards Israel at "relatively high speed" before breaching the country's airspace.

In 2014, Israel's military shot down a Russian-made Syrian jet that had entered Israeli airspace over the Golan Heights.

A spokesman for the Israeli military said yesterday that Israel's policy in Syria still remains one of "non-interference".

This is the second significant incident to take place on the Syrian border in 24 hours, after Monday saw the IDF launching two David's Sling interception missiles after identifying launches of two soviet made SS-21 Ballistic missiles in Southern Syria.

There have been days of bombing as Russian-backed Syrian government forces advance on rebel-held positions near the 1974 ceasefire line with Israel.

A Jordanian federal government resource stated that 422 individuals were drawn from Syria, throughout the Israeli busy Golan Levels boundary and also right into Jordan, below a number of 800 formerly revealed by the Foreign Ministry in Amman. Israel's military will "continue to operate against" any breach of the 1974 United Nations armistice deal that established buffer zones on the Golan, the statement said.

A military source told the official news agency Sana'a that the aircraft was sacked upon while bombing Islamic state positions in the Yarmuk valley of Quneitra province.

Both pilots aboard the Israeli jet ejected. We can not wait to see what are the real intentions of this fighter.

Syrian rebels surrendered their last pockets in the southwestern Quneitra and Daraa provinces last week, leading thousands of opposition fighters, their families and other civilians to evacuate to the rebel-held province of Idlib in northern Syria.

More than 5 million people have fled Syria during its seven-year-long civil war, according to the UN. The operation drew angry denunciations from Syria and Russian Federation, which regard the volunteers - also known as the White Helmets for their trademark hard hats - as terrorists because they operate in rebel areas.
