Ajax are hopeful of sealing a deal for the 28-year-old before United depart on their summer tour of the United States on Sunday.

Sky Sports News reported on Saturday the two clubs struck a deal for Blind to return to his former club for an initial fee of £14.1m which could rise to £18.5m with performance-based add-ons.

"I think it's no secret that we [Ajax] are still looking for a central defender and, if possible, it would be a great addition for Ajax to have a player with the quality of Daley to fit in the team".

It's clear that Mourinho wants to freshen up this squad with younger faces; plus the introduction of academy graduates will aid the political aspect of his job, because so many of our fans are keen for the club to uphold tradition.

The deal has been expected for some time, and the Netherlands global was not part of the United squad that flew to Los Angeles for their preseason tour on Sunday night. The very next season, Van Gaal shifted him back into a defensive position at the back.

Blind, a Dutch worldwide, previously spent four years with the Ajax senior club before moving over to United four summers ago. He will take on a much bigger role at Ajax.

Daley Blind was an integral player for Man Utd during the Louis van Gaal era, but has become surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho making just seven Premier League appearances last season.
