The three-time champion swept past Kei Nishikori with a ruthless, and sometimes fiery, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory on Centre Court.
Kei Nishikori became the first Japanese man in 23 years to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Monday and then predicted a "war" with Novak Djokovic to get to the last four. "Luckily for me it didn't happen", Djokovic said after he romped to a 6-4 6-2 6-2 win to reach the last eight for a 10th time. "I need to recover to give my best".
'He even threw the racket in the fourth set and the chair umpire says he didn't see him.
However, he later handed Djokovic another break with a wide backhand, allowing Djokovic to serve out and take a comfortable first set.
The pair traded breaks of serve in the opening set before Djokovic broke in the seventh game, carving out the opportunity to serve for the set. The umpire Carlos Ramos warned the Serb for racket abuse as Nishikori strolled away with the second set. "I'm enjoying my Wimbledon journey".
He also spoke about his anger that he displayed during the match, which is very uncharacteristic of him, he said, " Sometimes it fires you up, so... I don't know how you would break him and that's why it's exciting he is back in the mix.
"I think it's not fair, but it is the way it is in the midst of the emotions of a match".
This wasn't the first instance of Djokovic losing his temper at the All England Club this year. I am very grateful to play on the court I love and to be competing at a high level. "I'm frustrated to lose today, but these two weeks have helped me going forward".
"It motivates me to do extremely well here because I don't want to sit here and explain my loss".
Meanwhile, fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro met stubborn resistance from Frenchman Gilles Simon and had to settle for a suspension of their Wimbledon fourth round match as he led 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5), 5-7 after more than three hours on Court Two.
Djokovic was able to regain his composure, though, and managed to win by four sets to one.
"I just went like that (hand clenched in front of face), and then said, "Stupid", really loud", Watson said.
The semi-finalist went into more detail about his issues after the match.
Eighth seed Anderson will play American ninth seed John Isner on Friday for a place in Sunday's final.
Novak Djokovic has received criticism for supporting the Croatian football team at the football World Cup.
He came into the match having won 32 consecutive sets at Wimbledon, a run he stretched to 34 before faltering.
It will be Djokovic's first semifinal Wimbledon appearance since 2015.
The Serb only got his chance to play on Center Court after complaining about how much time Roger Federer was getting to spend in the famous arena.
Ninth seed Isner made the semifinals of a major for the first time with a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, 6-3 win over 2016 runner-up Milos Raonic.
