Trivia Tuesday: Home Run Derby winners over the years

Harper gave an uppercut fist pump after matching Kyle Schwarber's 18 homers in the championship round on the final swing of his allotted 4 minutes.

The record of opportunities for excellence available, yet never fully seized, loomed over Harper's Home Run Derby performance. The mugshot of Bryce Harper's brother, Bryan - who is technically still part of the Nationals organization, playing for the team's AA affiliate Harrisburg Senators, but who is also definitely not Bryce.

As a spectator, the 2018 Home Run Derby was tons of fun. The next thirty seconds of extra time was exquisite, as Schwarber smashed four dingers in order to advance to the finals in his first derby appearance. And in each case, he went on a tear, hitting 12 homers after the breather in both rounds. Schwarber edged Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros, 16-15, while Muncy narrowly beat Schwarber's Cubs teammate Javier Baez, 17-16. However, the slugger had earned a 30-second time bonus by hitting two home runs longer than 440 feet.

The six-time All-Star arranged to have his dad, Ron, pitch to him in the annual contest on the eve of the All-Star Game.

Harper is the first member of the Nationals (or Expos) to win the Home Run Derby. It was the best moment that didn't involve Harper. Hoskins opened by blasting 20 homers, the highest number that had been hit to that point.

Even as a television-centric spectacle, the Home Run Derby provides excitement for fans in the seats.

In the first round, Hoskins defeated Jesus Aguilar of the Milwaukee Brewers, 17-12.
