World Cup LIVE Brazil need a point Germany out; Mexico Sweden through

We will lick our wounds and come back: Sweden prepare for crucial Mexico show-down

Second-half goals from defenders Ludwig Augustinsson and Andreas Granqvist, from the penalty spot, plus a comical own goal were reward for a physical display from Sweden, who only made it to Russian Federation by beating Italy in the play-offs.

Sweden opened the scoring five minutes after the break thanks to Augustinsson's first worldwide goal.

That chance came only minutes after Mexico dodged a penalty kick being awarded to Sweden when a video assistant referee review ruled Javier Hernandez had not committed a handball.

But Germany failed to score in the simultaneous game, and South Korea's stoppage-time goals ensured Mexico advanced as group runners-up despite their capitulation against Sweden.

"We still haven't qualified properly, we haven't confirmed our progress, but who would have said we would have had six points by now in this group?" he said. Sweden topped the group on goal difference.

The Swedes rolled to a 3-0 rout Wednesday overtaking Mexico to win Group F just four nights after a gut-wrenching last-minute loss to Germany.

"They have a lot of skilled players in the team and are technically gifted".

With back-to-back victories to open the World Cup, including one over defending champion Germany, Mexico's national team has already been anointed by some back home as the best in the country's history.

But in the end it was Korea that surprised with a goal in the 92nd minute of the match before following up with a second in the 96th minute to well and truly secure Mexico's path through to the round of 16 and send the Germans packing.

Granqvist stepped up to slam home the penalty kick and put Sweden on the brink of reaching the lat 16. During the second half, Mexico potentially beat themselves.

Andersson had been upset by Germany's celebrations in a last-gasp 2-1 win for the holders last weekend, but said he took no satisfaction from seeing them crash out.

And there are still 20 more matches to be played. I'm very pleased with all of this.

"We are fearless enough not only to dream, but to work on those dreams so that we can make them true", Hernandez said.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio varies his team according to the opponents and had fielded 50 different line-ups in his 50 matches in charge up to and including the South Korea game.

Mexico sits in the Group F driver's seat with 6 points out of a possible 6 points through two games.

Paulinho and Thiago Silva scored a goal each to give the five-time champs first place in Group E.

Star striker Javier Hernandez became the first to score 50 goals in a Mexican jersey when he struck against South Korea - his 104th global appearance.
