Belgium global Kevin De Bruyne suffers injury in training

Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City and Premier League fans in general were rocked by news of Kevin De Bruyne's injury today.

The worst case scenario for De Bruyne would be a cruciate ligament injury - the same injury suffered by Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - which, at the very least, requires a nine month recovery period.

City announced the 27-year-old is already having tests on his right knee, while respected Belgium journalist Kristof Terreur revealed fears he could be absent for over two months.

The Belgium global enjoyed a brilliant campaign last season, scoring eight goals and setting up another 16 as City romped to Premier League success.

Manchester City have confirmed the latest news via their official social media page.

Back then, De Bruyne missed 12 matches for the club.

In 2016, he missed 12 games after injuring his right knee during an EFL Cup semi-final victory over Everton.

Kyle Walker is confident Manchester City will be able to cope with the loss of Kevin De Bruyne to injury.

A similar recovery time this time round would see the Belgium global ruled out until at least November, but with the severity of the injury unknown, City manager Pep Guardiola will be left sweating over the results of his medical examinations.

City do, however, have David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Gundogan who can offset his loss in midfield.
