Man City held at Wolves, Arsenal off the mark under Emery

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola described his side's 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Wolves as a "good point" despite seeing the Premier League champions drop points for the first time this season.

The reigning champions were forced to dig deep to rescue a point on a day of mild controversy at Molineux, with Laporte's header in the 69th minute cancelling out Willy Boly's opener 12 minutes earlier that went in off his arm.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola denied having any issue with Leroy Sane, despite the 22-year-old starting the new season on the bench.

Their lead lasted little over 10 minutes though, as Ilkay Gundogan's free kick was headed home by Aymeric Laporte for his first City goal.

Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolves, who won the Championship last season, are chasing their first win on their return to the top flight.

"We are happy with the first three points after two defeats, but it's clear we need to improve", said a far from fully satisfied Emery.

Wolves, last season were only one of two teams not to let Manchester City score in regular time. "Wolves deserve credit, of course".

Guardiola usually knows what to say within the confines of the dressing room, but he does not mind filtering slithers of his discontent out into the public domain via his press conferences, either.

'We have six excellent strikers and not all of them can play. Wolves have their own style and beliefs and this was a tough and competitive game.

Last season's Premier League Player of the Year cushioned Roberto Firmino's pass in off the far post for his second goal of the campaign. But against Everton during the Premier League's opening weekend, they showed incredible resilience to finish the game 2-2. They could have gone ahead from a point-blank Gabriel Jesus header that again forced fine work from Rui Patricio and felt a foul on David Silva should have drawn a penalty. "It's an identity you want to create", he said.

Perhaps more tellingly, Guardiola has seen fit to make the Frenchman move out of his city centre apartment and into a place on the outskirts of Manchester.

"We are still not in the best condition, that's why we have to take points and hopefully after the worldwide break we can be better and better".
