'Queen of Soul' Aretha Franklin dead at 76

The singer, whose career has spanned seven decades, died at her home in Detroit, Michigan, at 9.50am on Thursday, her publicist said.

Fox News Channel on Thursday aired a photo of R&B singer Patti LaBelle in a tribute to the recently deceased Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. According to a family statement given to the Associated Press, "Franklin's official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type".

US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the family of, "a person I knew well - she worked for me on numerous occasions, she was terrific". She was elegant, graceful, and utterly uncompromising in her artistry.

'She will forever be the Queen of Soul and so much more to all who knew her personally and through her music. "We were witnessing the greatest soul artist of all time". The album was certified GOLD by the Recording Industry Association of America, and wins her a GRAMMY Award for the Best Rhythm & Blues Recording and Best Rhythm & Blues Solo Vocal Performance, Female for "Respect".

She performed at the inaugurations of former presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and also sang at the memorial service for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.in 1968.

As news broke of her failing health, celebrities including Ciara, Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey tweeted that they were praying for her. And I brought it to her and played it for her.

"Her music was deepened by her connection to the struggles and the triumphs of the African American experience", he said in a statement. "Her loss is deeply profound and my heart is full of sadness".

A Rolling Stone reviewer said Franklin "sings like never before on record" on that live album.

In 1987, she was the first woman to inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"When Aretha Franklin sat at the piano and sang the blues, the audience at the Village Vanguard erupted into applause", Billboard wrote in a review of her debut NY performance.

In February of 2017, Franklin announced that she would stop touring, but she continued to book concerts. She begins her solo with "The moment I wake up/Before I put on my makeup/I say a little" before backup singers chime in with "prayer for you".
