Russia Contributed To Charlottesville Rally Violence, GOP Lawmaker Claims

Charlottesville and parts of Northern Virginia will be under a state of emergency through the weekend because of possible unrest on the one-year anniversary of a white supremacist rally that left one person dead.

Garett has made similar comments linking last year's violent clash between white supremacists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, to "foreign influence", but this is the first time he has attributed those claims to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Russia's interference in USA policy could have led to an aggravation of the situation during the protest in Charlottesville a year ago.

With regards to the security area downtown, law enforcement personnel will man two entry points for pedestrians seeking to enter the security area.

This weekend white nationalists are again planning to rally - this year outside the president's home in Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Peter Newsham answer questions from reporters about the city's preparations for the white nationalist-led rally marking the one year anniversary of 2017 Charlottesville "Unite the Right" protests in Washington, U.S., August 9, 2018.

"Considering US politicians' irresponsible behavior, we will not be surprised if they accuse Russian Federation of organizing the protests in Washington on August 12, 2018, timed to the anniversary of the Charlottesville events as well".

Authorities faced unrelenting criticism for their handling of last year's rally and an independent review that found serious police and government failures in responding to violence at the "Unite the Right" rally.

State police and Charlottesville police were unable to communicate by radio the day of the rally because they were on different channels, the report said, and commanders "instructed their officers not to intervene in all but the most serious physical confrontations".

Several counter-protester organizers have also planned out events.

The violence culminated with a man driving a auto into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing a woman and injuring 19 people.

The independent review by former U.S. Attorney Tim Heaphy was sharply critical of both the city and state police, saying both "failed to "stand up" to protect human life". After last year's violence, the city asked the state legislature to ban firearms from major public events, but the bill failed to advance.
