25 killed, 53 wounded in Iran parade attack

25 people were killed when a military parade was ambushed on Saturday

Iran has summoned diplomats from Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands over allegedly harboring "members of the terrorist group" that launched an attack on a military parade in the country's southwest.

In a statement, the foreign office said that Pakistan is against terrorism and stands with the families of victims in this time of grief.

The Saturday attack occurred at a military parade as gunmen opened fire, killing dozens Revolutionary Guards members and civilians, including a child and a journalist.

Iran is marking the anniversary of the beginning of the 1980-88 war with Iraq with several military parades across the nation.

All four attackers were killed, state media said.

In videos and pictures of the aftermath circulating on social media, rescue officials can be seen shifting injured to hospitals.

The United States on Sunday condemned the deadly attack on a military parade in Iran but said the country's clerical rulers needed to look at reasons for unrest.

However, the self-proclaimed Daesh terrorist organization claimed latter Saturday its responsibility for the attack through its electronic website "Amaq".

"Terrorists recruited, trained, armed and paid by a foreign regime have attacked Ahvaz", he said in a tweet, adding: "Iran holds regional terror sponsors and their U.S. masters accountable for such attacks".

But top American officials say Iran is simply passing the buck.

The commanders could present a show of strength by launching missiles at groups operating in Iraq or Syria that may be linked to the militants who carried out the attack.

President Hassan Rouhani said Iran was ready to confront the U.S. and its Gulf Arab allies over the attack.

The spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, explained that the terrorists used weapons they had hidden in a park near the place where they had planned a military parade.

Ahvaz National Resistance, an Iranian ethnic Arab opposition movement which seeks a separate state in oil-rich Khuzestan province, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ghasemi also said Iran expected the Danish and Dutch governments to "hand over the perpetrators of this attack and anyone related to them to Iran for a fair trial".

Her words came just a day after the USA presidential lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said that the Iranian government will be toppled.

The United Kingdom's ambassador to Iran Rob Macaire tweeted his condolences. There have also been economic protests in the region and protests over Iran's nationwide drought.

Ahvaz is the capital of the Khuzestan province, which borders Iraq and is home to a large Sunni population and some of the country's largest oil fields.
