Henry Cavill Exits Superman Role As Warner Bros. Shakes Up DC Universe

Henry Cavill will reportedly no longer play Superman in any Warner Bros. and DC movies

Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros.' primary DC strategy involves a "Supergirl" movie, focusing on the Kryptonian character who lands on Earth when she's a teenager, which would require a substantially younger Superman than the 35-year-old Cavill. Cavill was reportedly ready to make a cameo as Superman in Shazam! next year, which is being led by Chuck star Zachary Levi and will hit April 5. but, that's reportedly not happening. Warner Bros. are eager to "reset" the under-performing franchise, according to the source. Even more interesting, is that they are of the mindset that the Superman role is interchangeable, similar to James Bond. The movie would have been Cavill's last shot as appearing as the Man of Steel. Recognizable across the globe for decades, he was essentially the first superhero, but Warner Bros. hasn't been able to figure out how to successfully translate him to the big screen essentially since Superman II back in 1980! Warner Bros has also "shifted its focus" toward producing a Supergirl origin story, according to the publication. Whatever went on behind the scenes (allegedly something to do with a dispute regarding a possible Superman cameo in Shazam!), the end result was that Cavill was hanging up his Superman spurs once and for all.

Man of Steel's Henry Cavill has finally responded to reports he will no longer play Superman in the DC Extended Universe - sort of.

In August, the New York Post reported Affleck was headed to rehab after an intervention by his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. "Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films". Affleck is reportedly not expected to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in an upcoming Batman standalone feature directed by Matt Reeves. An Aquaman solo movie is coming in December, and then Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 are both locked and loaded for 2019 releases. If Jordan did get the role, he would be the first black actor ever cast as Superman.

The report was disputed by Cavill's agent Dany Garcia who noted, "the cape is still in his closet".
