Later the US President boasted that despite the word being "old-fashioned" he was a nationalist to rapturous applause and cheering from the crowd.

Cruz is facing a challenge from Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke for the Senate seat in the midterm elections. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Monday, burying a bitter, "nasty" feud with a man that he long referred to as "Lyin' Ted" during the 2016 presidential primary campaign.

President Donald Trump speaks to the media before departing on Marine One at the White House on October 22, 2018 in Washington, DC.

"Of course I'm unpopular with foreign nations, because we're not letting them rip us off anymore", he said.

It must really kind of suck to be Ted Cruz right now. Trump asked his audience.

President Trump embraced his one-time nemesis Sen. Cruz denounced Trump as a reckless and rudderless political opportunist: He was a "pathological liar", "utterly amoral", and a "serial philanderer". "I work with the president in delivering on our promises".

The president said Mr. O'Rourke is a "stone-cold phony" who favors lax border security.

Trump believes that his campaign pledges, including his much vaunted - and still-unfulfilled - promise to quickly build a US-Mexico border wall, are still rallying cries.

Trump marveled at O'Rourke's "F" rating from the NRA.

On Monday night, it was all water under the bridge as Trump and Cruz appeared together onstage.

"I'll tell you, when it comes to family separation, everyone agrees families shouldn't be separated", said Cruz.

"For all middle income people 10%" the president said.

With the midterms drawing near, Trump has emphasized immigration, targeting a migrant caravan heading to the USA southern border. You know what I am? "We can't let that happen to our country".

I think the Democrats had something to do with it, and now they're saying, 'I think we made a big mistake.' Because people are seeing how bad it is. "That is an assault on our country".

The total number of migrants now headed to the USA border is estimated to be about 7,200, the United Nations said Monday.

Trump gave his supporters permission to use the term "nationalist" to describe themselves at a Monday night rally.

It was a packed house at the Toyota Center in Houston where Trump praised the Texas senator for working closely with him on tax cuts and regulations.
