Microsoft stops Windows latest 10 update after complaints of data loss

Microsoft Pulls October Update, Windows Server 2019 Missing as Well - Petri

Microsoft has since acknowledged the issue and updated their Windows 10 update history support page indicating they have halted the rollout while they investigate.

However, the most important issue is the deletion of user files located in the directory.

The update had been rolled out globally on October 2. However, now according to the latest reports, this latest Windows 10 update will delete your files. Sure, Windows 10 goes through the motions of shutting down. ZDnet reports that the company has barred some devices from downloading the new Windows 10 update due to compatibility issues with the Intel Display Audio drivers.

After its "Windows 10 April 2018" update, the tech giant in September had announced a refreshed "Windows 10 October 2018 Update" with new features and enhancements for over 700 million devices running Windows 10.

Another denizen of Reddit reported the contents of their Documents folder going missing post-update, with all the user folders (Desktop and Download folders, and the like) having been shifted to their secondary drive (away from the system drive). This update allowed users to view, send, and receive SMS messages from their Android phones right onto their connected Windows 10 PCs. Microsoft has now ended the roll out of the update for all users. You can download the free version of Recuva from CCleaner and restore your lost files. This is specifically happening with Version 1809, which is slowly rolling out to every Windows 10 computer right now. At the moment, there's pretty much no way to recover the lost data. There are many new features and improvements included herein.

As Microsoft leaves behind the failed experiment that was Windows 10 Mobile and embraces Apple and Google's operating systems, Android users are embracing Microsoft back, as shown by the charts on the Play Store. As always, now is a good time to take a serious look at how you back up your content so that you don't find yourself on the wrong end of a bad update.
