Sarah Sanders defends Trump's comments about Christine Blasey Ford

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, one of the three Republican senators who will likely decide Kavanaugh's fate, said Monday she is "confident that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will follow up on any leads that result from the interviews" when asked if the senator is satisfied with the scope of the inquiry.

The president has since received widespread backlash over his comments made during a rally in Mississippi Tuesday night, drawing attention to those gaps. Ford alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school.

"What neighbourhood was it in?"

"Where's the house? I don't know!" I don't know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? "Well, do you think it was - nope, it was one beer", President Trump said, mimicking Ford's testimony last week to the Senate Judiciary Committee. 'I don't remember.' How did you get there?

"And a man's life is in tatters", Trump added. To discuss something this sensitive at a political rally is just not right.

"And when I see what's going on right now, it's scary", adding that at the moment he fears more for his sons.

Collins, who was escorted by a police detail from her office to the Capitol, did not answer a question from reporters before the hearing about whether the comments would influence her vote, while Murkowski said she planned on taking "everything" into account.

Senators will then vote on whether to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Ramirez has said Kavanaugh exposed himself to her when they both attended Yale University. "Wholly inappropriate and entirely unacceptable" chimed in Murkowski.

Key Republicans to watch in Kavanaugh's confirmation vote including Sens.

It's not now clear whether the Republican leadership has secured enough votes to ensure Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation.

The senator said he is requesting the recordings because the committee has obtained a letter that "raises specific concerns" about the reliability of Ford's polygraph test.

Following testimony from one of his accusers before a US Senate committee, an FBI background investigation was re-opened to examine the allegations.

President Trump reiterated his support for Mr Kavanaugh on Tuesday, saying he believed the Senate would approve the judge.

Another: When Trump complained on Twitter this summer about "many years of US foolishness and stupidity, " Kilmeade made an issue of it on the show.

The FBI is expected to soon provide senators with the results of its investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh when he was in high school and college.

A 21-year-old man accused Kavanaugh of throwing ice on him "for some unknown reason", according to the report obtained by the Times. Opposition to Kavanaugh grew 4 percentage points after the hearing, apparently driven by people who previously were undecided. "She deserves better", the California Democrat wrote on Twitter after Trump's speech. He said she was cooperating with the investigation.

"The President was stating the facts, and frankly facts that were included in special prosecutor Rachel Mitchell's report".

The president's tone on Ford's testimony stood in sharp contrast to his assessment last week.

Republicans hold a 51-49 Senate majority heading into next month's midterm elections that will determine which political party controls both houses of Congress.

His confirmation continues to hang in the balance as the FBI investigates the allegation, which Mr Kavanaugh has forcefully denied.
