Thirty injured in floor collapse at party near Clemson University

30 injured when floor collapses at college party

The floor of a clubhouse near Clemson University where a large party was taking place collapsed early Sunday, hurtling dozens of people into the basement, authorities said.

As a crowded group of Clemson University students and local residents danced and jumped around at an apartment clubhouse, Jeremy Tester felt something odd beneath his feet.

Shocking footage shot from the inside the party showed people jumping while they danced just as the floor collapsed.

The property management of the clubhouse says it was built in 2004.

One student said he felt something "weird" just before the collapse and suddenly the guy behind him just disappeared. "Everyone was trying to climb out".

Clemson Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said no one was trapped following the incident, nor did any victim sustain life-threatening injuries. People fell through the ground and landed on the floor below. People are under other people.

Guerra added to ABC: "Turning around and seeing a bunch of people who used to be on the second floor now on the basement was really surreal and people were crying. Then I wake up, because I blacked out, and there [were] girls everywhere with blood all over their face", Leroy Pearson told CBS affiliate WSPA-TV. "It was a lot to take in".

The apartment complex is about three miles northeast of Clemson University.

No deaths were reported, but police said some of the injured had broken bones.

Thankfully, none of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. The Clubhouse and pool area is OFF LIMITS to all. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured and we apologise for any inconvenience".
