The Grand Strand is in the projected path and could feel tropical-storm effects between Wednesday and Friday.
Every tropical system is different, and the time for the biggest changes will come in the early life of the storm, right now. However, models differ in their forecasts for the storm's intensity, and it could reasonably be somewhat stronger or weaker.
Further strengthening is forecast as it moves northward across the Gulf of Mexico.
"The depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today".
While forecast models broadly expect the storm to reach hurricane strength, models have varied views on the storm's forward speed, meaning there is still uncertainty about when it might reach the US coast.
The National Weather Center in Jacksonville was not down-playing the effects on northeast Florida, including Flagler County.
