Trump calls Ford's testimony 'compelling,' orders Federal Bureau of Investigation to reopen Kavanaugh probe

They will present the evidence gathered in a report that will be reviewed by the White House and the Senate. We're not micromanaging this process. "And I believe her", Leahy said.

White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway delivered a similar message Sunday, repeating that the investigation will be "limited in scope" and "will not be a fishing expedition".

The scope of the investigation that FBI agents will undertake now is unclear.

The White House counsel's office has reportedly provided FBI investigators with a list of witnesses they are permitted to interview as part of the week-long probe, sources within the administration told NBC on the condition of anonymity.

"They are going to go and they are going to provide information", Sanders insisted.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), speaking on CNN, said Kavanaugh's claims that he had never blacked out or suffered any memory loss while drinking "doesn't quite make sense to me" and said she hoped the Federal Bureau of Investigation would interview friends to determine whether that was credible.

Amid the new probe, Trump has maintained his support for Kavanaugh, saying that "hopefully at the conclusion, everything will be fine".

"I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion". Two others, Swetnick and Debbie Ramirez, have publicly come forward to accuse Kavanaugh of other sexual misconduct. He denies all the claims.

Ramirez alleges that Kavanaugh exposed himself and approached her with his genitals out at a college party, the New Yorker first reported a week ago.

Judge says in his letter that he doesn't know Swetnick and does not recall any parties in the early 1980s where he "fondled or grabbed women in an aggressive or unwanted manner". Ford told the Committee she was "100 percent" sure Kavanaugh assaulted her when they were both high school teenagers in 1982, while the Supreme Court nominee angrily denied the allegations.

"That is - that really - I wanted to use the word farce, but - that's not the kind of investigation that all of us are expecting the FBI to conduct", Hirono continued. The account identified itself as "Jeffrey Catalan" and had been used to make calls for President Donald Trump to be overthrown by a military coup and accusations the president had murdered someone in 1983.

An attorney for Leland Keyser, a friend of Ford's who Ford says was at the party, said Keyser also was willing to cooperate with the FBI investigation.

The tweet followed Trump telling reporters Saturday the FBI had "free rein" in the investigation, which was launched Friday following an emotional hearing Thursday with testimony by Kavanaugh and professor Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in high school.

Whitehouse's office considered the allegation credible enough to pass it on to the Judiciary Committee as a whole, leading committee staff to question Kavanaugh over the alleged incident later on Monday.

Both Kavanaugh and Ford testified separately before the Senate Judiciary Committee last Thursday. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from IL, said it was his understanding there would be an FBI investigation of "the outstanding allegations, the three of them", but Republicans have not said whether that was their understanding as well. The information would be added to the nominee's background file, which is available to senators.

The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the White House to ask the FBI to conduct the supplemental investigation, which will be "limited to current credible allegations" and must be done by October 5.
