Winner Emerges In PDP Presidential Primary Vote

BREAKING | Aisha Buhari Berates Oshiomole Over Irregularities in APC's Nationwide Primaries

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to his victory at the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abubakar's closest rival was the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, who scored 693 votes.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has led other delegates of the host state out of the Adokiye Amesiemaka Stadium, venue of the National convention of PDP.

Buhari, a 75-year-old former military ruler, was the sole candidate for his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, so his confirmation by some 7,000 delegates gathered in the capital Abuja was a mere formality on Saturday.

Saraki, who also contested in the primaries that produced Abubakar, said the former Nigerian vice president deserved the victory.

The governor who spoke during a visit to the Lagos State PDP Secretariat, told party members that the country is highly complex to be managed by politician who is not well grounded on developments in the country.

"We are with you and confident that with us as a team May 29 2019 will be a day that our party will take over".

Dankwambo garnered 68 per cent of all votes cast.

Dickson described the primaries that produced Atiku as the freest and best election ever conducted in the history of the country.

"Under his tutelage, I learnt quite a lot and I believe the experience and care I got is going to definitely impact on how we eventually govern this country, I wish to pay my personal tribute to him", he added.

He said the emergence of many political parties was good for democracy and freedom.

The handling of the economy has already emerged as a major issue at the start of the election cycle in Africa's top oil producer, which also plays a key role in regional wars against Islamist insurgents.

Abubakar comes from the Muslim-majority north, and his nomination follows an unwritten rule in Nigeria that the presidency should alternate every two terms between a candidate from the north and south.
