A phone and a tablet- Samsung reveals foldable smartphone

Although it has been a criticized decision, but, the South Korean giant Samsung indicates that this measure is carried out with the aim of improving the usability of the devices with only one hand, mainly those with large diagonal screens.

Samsung and Huawei have been beaten to the market, however, by Royole, a Chinese display making start-up, which last week unveiled a foldable Android phone with a 7.8 inch screen, priced from around US$1,300 (S$1,800).

Normally, one doesn't think of Samsung as necessarily being a haven for the worldwide development community.

As we noted earlier the community are divided on the attractiveness of the new Samsung Experience look.

Samsung may have a number of competitors in the foldable smartphone space. The device can be opened to reveal a 7.3-inch tablet. Available in more than 200 markets around the world, SmartThings offers a connected experience in a single app, bringing IoT into the smart home, the auto, office and everywhere in between, the company said. That requires app developers to comply, but Samsung is probably the only Android vendor with a competent suite of apps to rival Google's. Developers can build and launch on the platform, as well as easily integrate cloud-connected, Zigbee and Z-Wave devices.

Bixby, too, is expected to come with a lot of new additions and not to mention that the company has introduced a new user interface for its upcoming devices dubbed One UI. It can also display three different apps simultaneously. Also on the list was "foldable and multi-display emulation for the AOSP emulator".

Samsung isn't the only smartphone maker coming up with interesting new ways to cut out those dreaded bezels and give us a truly full-screen experience.
