BRAIN FREEZE: Northeast Braces for 'COLDEST THANKSGIVING' in Recorded History

VENANGO CO. Pa. – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Venango County and surrounding areas

The last time high winds grounded balloons on Thanksgiving Day parade was in 1971.

"It's going to be brutal out there", said Accuweather senior meteorologist Dave Dombek.

The mercury in Philadelphia is expected to dip to a bone-chilling 29-degree high on Thursday, with similar shivering temperatures also set for NY and Boston at 26 and 21 degrees, respectively, according to NBC meteorologist Kathryn Prociv.

More of the same is in store for Friday.

Much of the Sierra will be impacted by snow late Wednesday into Thursday morning, including Mt.

United States weather service Weather Underground is warning the cold could be "dangerous" across the northeast, with the likes of Baltimore, Boston and Washington all likely to experience some of their coldest Thanksgivings on record.

Saturday will be pleasant as cloud increase and temperatures warm into the lower 50s.

The temperature in Waterloo region is expected to dip overnight to a low of -17 C, with a wind chill of -23.

Cold high temperature records for both Thanksgiving Day (remember, the date changes each year) and November 22 are likely to be broken at the Jetport. The lingering winds will make it feel like the temperature is in the teens across most the area.

Authorities said a sudden, intense snow squall Tuesday afternoon contributed to a 30-car pileup on Interstate 95 in Etna that started when a tractor-trailer jackknifed in the southbound lane.

Temperatures will be chilly on Friday, only reaching toward freezing.

NORTHEAST: It is never good when you start off the day with delays.

Snowy and windy conditions are likely over the Sierra passes above 7,500 feet starting Wednesday morning.

"The snow squalls will result in suddenly reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow", Environment Canada said in a statement.

New Yorkers will need to wrap up warm this Thanksgiving as the annual holiday is set to be the coldest its been in more than 100 years.
