'Breaking Bad' movie to start filming this month

Breaking Bad’ Movie Set To Start Production

Better Call Saul executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein have also been linked to the movie - so it's definitely going to stay true to the vibes of the original series and to the Breaking Bad universe.

The movie would catch up with Jesse Pinkman and Jimmy "Saul Goodman" McGill after the events of the Breaking Bad finale, when Jimmy is living under the assumed name Gene and managing a Cinnabon in Omaha, as we see in flash-forwards on Better Call Saul.

Obviously, Aaron Paul's returning for the project, though there's now no word as to which other Breaking Bad cast members might appear.

Backing up these claims is the fact that show creator Vince Gilligan just signed a three-year overall deal with Sony.

"We are happy to welcome "Greenbrier" and Sony Studios to New Mexico", said New Mexico State Film Office Director Nick Maniatis.

Breaking Bad had five seasons to chronicle the slow, maddening descent from suburban banality into criminal underworld for Walter White, a chemistry teacher diagnosed with lung cancer.

We also don't know if this will be a theatrical release or a made-for-TV movie.

The THR report's only detail on the movie's story notes that it's "said to follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom". However, an unnamed source close to the production has allegedly confirmed that the film is in fact Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad filmed in New Mexico for six years, and Better Call Saul had filmed there as well.

As of now, it's unclear if the film which is temporary titled Greenbrier, will be a prequel or a follow-up to the series finale which aired in 2013. In the finale episode, Jack Welker (Michael Bowen), the uncle of Todd Alquist (Jesse Plemons) and the leader of a White Supremacist Gang, brings a shackled Jesse to his compound, where Walt meant to meet them. But that saying has never really applied to the Breaking Bad franchise, right?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the two-hour film will begin this month in New Mexico.
