Florida Elections Official Mixed Bad Ballots with Good Ones

Levin: Why do Democrats 'always manage to pick up votes after the fact?'

The Broward Supervisor of Elections office will begin recounting votes Sunday at 7am.

Scott questioned how "votes are coming out of nowhere" in Democratic-leaning Broward and Palm Beach counties during a Thursday night news conference at the governor's mansion.

President Donald Trump then weighed in on Twitter.

"Scott is abusing the full force of his public office as governor to stop a complete and accurate counting of all the votes in Florida - which would determine whether he wins or loses", Nelson said. The president pointed to Elias' involvement in hiring the research firm Fusion GPS to investigate him during the election - an effort that resulted in the notorious dossier on Trump's connections to Russian Federation - in an apparent attempt to cast doubt on the Florida recount effort.

Scott was suspicious of Broward's coming up with tens of thousands of votes so late after the election night.

Meanwhile, Scott's campaign released a statement saying Bucher was refusing to comply with the court order "to submit overvotes and undervotes to the Palm Beach County Canvassing Board for review". Nelson's campaign has sued to extend that deadline.

In an emergency hearing Friday afternoon, Judge Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips ruled that Snipes had violated Florida's Public Records Act by not responding to the Scott campaign's requests for ballot information in a reasonable amount of time.

On Friday morning, the Department of State informed the law enforcement agency that they have received "no allegation of criminal activity" thus far as it relates to the election.

"If you look at Broward and Palm Beach [counties] to a lesser extent, they have had a frightful history", Trump said.

Trump even personally called out Snipes - who he noted was "in this case a woman" - for her "horrible history". Chris Hartline, spokesman for Scott's campaign, said by email that "the governor's statements yesterday evening and his interview today were clear - the incompetence, legal violations, and irregularities in vote tabulations in Broward and Palm Beach should be concerning to every Florida voter".

The machines must first be re-tested and re-calibrated to read and separate ballots with apparent over-votes, that is, the ballots in which the machines read that the voter may have selected more than one candidate, and undervotes, in which the machine does not register a vote on the ballot.

What originally started as a trio of protesters quickly grew into a group of about 200 people, voicing their outrage in the midst of three potential recounts in the Senate, Governor and State Agricultural Commission races.

If any of the races are within a margin of 0.25 of a percentage point or less after the machine recount, a manual recount would be triggered.

In Broward, about 25,000 voters who marked their gubernatorial candidate on the ballot didn't mark one for Senate, based on the results. Paper ballots used Tuesday put the Senate race at the bottom left, where some voters could have missed it.

Ballots in both races are still being counted. Campaign officials for his rival, Democrat Stacey Abrams, have vowed to pursue litigation to ensure all votes are counted.

DeSantis has said little about the recount and is instead proceeding as if he won the election, appointing a transition team and preparing to take office in January. DeSantis' lead has narrowed to.41 percentage points - about 33,000 votes.

Nelson filed a lawsuit on November 8 demanding that provisional and mail-in ballots with signatures not matching those on record be counted as valid, The Tampa Bay Times reported.
