Manny Pacquiao Adrien Broner fight January 19 formally announced

Pacquiao vs. Broner officially set for January 19th

Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBA world welterweight title against Adrien Broner on January 19 in Las Vegas.

It was his other job, though, that he was working Monday when the eight-time champion announced a January 19 defense of his WBA welterweight belt against Adrien Broner.

The Filipino improved his record to 60 wins, seven defeats and two draws, but is 5-5 in his last 10 professional contests.

His belt is a secondary title, as the holder of the "super" title, Keith Thurman, is recognised as the champion of the division by the WBA.

The persistent mention of the Pacquiao v Mayweather rematch during the Broner bout press conference announcement didn't go down well with the American though. "When I met up with Floyd in Japan, we talked and he said he wants to come out of retirement to challenge me", Pacquiao said.

"My opponent is fast and a [high] calibre fighter".

Broner like his “big bro” is colorful and inflammatory- a contrast to the reserved Pacquiao who admits that he does not like trash talking prior to his fights.

"I don't think they don't wanna watch the fight", Pacquiao said Monday. "I got the whole 'hood with me like he has the whole Philippines with him".

Pacquiao lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather during their long-awaited 2015 superfight that set a new PPV record for combat sports at 4.6 million buys. "He's fast. He's a good boxer and you have to train hard and be in flawless condition to beat him".

Justin Fortune, the conditioning guru who, likewise, handled that aspect of preparations in Pacquiao's title win over Matthysse will, most-likely, join the party in their return to Manila. A loss to Mikey Garcia and a majority draw against Vargas in April were Broner's last two results.

"This is a fight that we've been trying to make for several years now", said Joe Ramos, who heads MP Promotions and acknowledged that making the fight was not hard once Pacquiao joined PBC.

"Of course, things he's done in the game are unbelievable". "But it would be a mistake to overlook Adrien Broner in this fight".

Broner, who has never been stopped in his three defeats, said he's aiming for a knockout. The operation was very good, so I'm ready to fight again with him in the future - if he's coming out of his retirement. We know he can go out and go to sleep.
