Trump Uses False Accusation Against Brett Kavanaugh To Inflame His Base

The Senate Judiciary Committee found "no credible evidence" to support allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh that were presented during his confirmation process.

Trump's tweet seemingly refers to Judy Munro-Leighton, a woman who said she was the author of an anonymous letter alleging that Kavanaugh and a friend had raped her. She said she'd never met Kavanaugh, but was against his nomination.

The revelation from Ford led to a sensational day of public testimony from her and then Kavanaugh before the Senate judiciary committee, which left Capitol Hill and much of the nation both riveted and disturbed.

"It was a made-up story", Trump told supporters at a rally in Montana, amplifying an argument he made on Twitter earlier Saturday.

The chairman already has referred lawyer Michael Avenatti and his client Julie Swetnick to the Justice Department for making false statements and obstructing of a congressional investigation.

The letter marks at least the fourth request Grassley has made of federal authorities to investigate those involved in the controversial Kavanaugh proceedings, which were extended due to a series of sexual assault allegations surfacing when Kavanaugh was in high school and college.

Trump did not draw a distinction between the Grassley referral of a woman who had received little attention and the allegations of Ford and other women who made claims to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Investigators also found evidence of potential witness tampering and violations of Senate rules.

Said Trump: "One of his [Kavanaugh's] false accusers just came out, a little while ago, and said it's all a lie. she made up the lie".

On October 3, Munro-Leighton sent an email to Committee staff identifying herself.

Grassley wrote "that Munro-Leighton admitted to the committee on November 1 that she previously lied about an allegation that Kavanaugh and a friend raped her in the backseat of a vehicle", according to The Hill.

She further said, as the Grassley letter indicated, "that (1) she "just wanted to get attention"; (2) "it was a tactic"; and (3) 'that was just a ploy'".

"When directly asked by Committee investigators if she was - as she had claimed - the "Jane Doe" from Oceanside, California, who had sent the letter to Senator Harris, she admitted, 'No, no, no". The letter included a story about Kavanaugh and another male groping, sexually assaulting and ultimately raping a woman in a vehicle after a party.

Subsequently, Committee investigators began looking into Munro-Leighton's allegations. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) received a letter from a Jane Doe in Oceanside California.

Kavanaugh was questioned about the letter in September under oath and categorically denied the allegations.

So this was just a stunt by some left-wing person who was frustrated Kavanaugh was going to be confirmed.
