WashPost: Ocasio-Cortez Claim About Pentagon Wrong

'This is a disgrace': Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams her future colleagues in Congress for employing unpaid interns and failing to pay staffers a 'living wage'

Ocasio-Cortez was immediately corrected by various critics on social media, but her greatest rebuke came from the Washington Post fact-checker, which gave her their greatest error rating of "four Pinocchios" for her claim.

While the office of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said its recent posting for unpaid internships was "made in error" and announced paid positions will be announced in January, fellow NY lawmaker in the House, Rep. -elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, declared Tuesday night that it's time for Democrats to "walk the walk" on paying Capitol Hill interns a living wage and said that her office will pay $15 per hour "at least" for those who come to work for her.

"I have noticed that Junior here has a habit of posting nonsense about me whenever the Mueller investigation heats up", the 29-year-old tweeted. "Congress as a body, GOP included, has the power". The self-described democratic-socialist has taken her advocacy of workers' rights to Washington where she has already begun to take on the way congressional staffers in general, and interns in particular, are paid. "No indiv. member can issue a subpoena unless they are a Chair (which, as a freshman, I can assure you I will not be)". Likewise, Ocasio-Cortez did not have much patience for an offensive meme that Donald Trump Jr. shared on Instagram this week. "Also must be under purview".

In short, even supposing the numbers involved in Ocasio-Cortez's tweet were accurate - a big if - the two reports are not comparable in any meaningful way. "Members and staff are likewise prohibited from threatening punitive action on the basis of such considerations", the manual reads.

Trump Jr. posted the meme late Thursday on Instagram.

Trump Jr. reportedly has told his friends he expects an indictment from Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference and possible collusion with the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential election.
