Giuliani tries to clean up comments about Trump Tower Moscow

- Rudy Giuliani, personal attorney to President Donald Trump, in comments given to Isaac Chotiner of the New Yorker after asking if he ever anxious that his legacy would be tarnished by "saying things for Trump, [and] not always being truthful about it".

Giuliani muddied the waters on Sunday after he revealed to The New York Times that Trump recalled that negotiations to build a Trump-branded skyscraper in Moscow were "going from the day I announced to the day I won" the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has denied the BuzzFeed article's claim and Giuliani backed him: "I can tell you his counsel to Michael Cohen throughout that entire period was: "Tell the truth".

In an interview with ABC News' Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in December, Giuliani said Trump was having conversations with his former personal attorney Michael Cohen about the project up until and around November 2016. Giuliani has contradicted himself a few times when discussing Trump's plans for a Moscow real estate deal in the past, and the Washington Post's Aaron Blake addresses some of those contradictions in a January 22 op-ed.

"And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russian Federation, the sources said Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project", the report added.

Mr. Giuliani declined to tell CNN what the president's legal team told Mr. Mueller's team.

On Sunday, Giuliani told NBC and The New York Times that talks about the project continued during the campaign.

Russian Federation has repeatedly denied interfering in the election, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the defeat of Trump's campaign opponent as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of electoral fraud and corruption.

Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal attorney, has admitted to lying to Congress about a Trump Tower Moscow deal.

"I did not say that", Giuliani told Chotiner.

"Every prosecutor knows that when you stand up and give an opening statement, you want to certainly highlight all the incriminating evidence that makes it seem beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime, but even more importantly, you want to draw the sting of any really bad evidence that cuts against your theory of the prosecution", he explained. But the President's recollection of it is that the - the thing had petered out quite a bit.

Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee who appeared as a guest on the same show as Giuliani, said, "That is news to me. What I was talking about was, if he had those conversations, they would not be criminal".
