Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul suspended over comments on ‘Koffee with Karan’

After watching the episode, one can not help but notice the double standards when one expresses strong views on making the film industry safer and better and lending support to the #MeToo movement versus the unending silence to apparent sexism and misogyny. Following a backlash, the episode has now being removed from Hotstar, the online platform on which the show is streamed, and Pandya has apologised. The respect for cricketers in our country is enormous and even foreign players say the reverence for the sport and its sportsmen is something else in our country.

On the show, the two players spoke about the women they had been with, with Pandya revealing details about how he picks up women at bars.

Hardik and Rahul were not only criticised heavily on social media, but also earned the disapproval of their captain Virat Kohli, who on Friday, denounced the statements made by them on Koffee With Karan, which is hosted by filmmaker-producer Karan Johar.

"We as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers do not support such views", Kohli said during the pre-match press conference in Sydney. "I'm little from the black side so I need to see how they move".

As the controversy built up in the following days, Pandya took to Twitter Wednesday to issue an apology: "After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who [sic] I may have hurt in any way".

Featuring Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, the now-deleted episode saw the former pass several demeaning remarks about women when the conversation turned to his love life.

Johar pressed on throughout the episode, with one of his queries being how the Indian players decide if they happen to hit on the same woman.

The legal team also advised that the BCCI chief executive, Johri, issued fresh communications/show-cause notices to the players, as the notices sent on January 9 didn't have the specifications that those were issued under Rule 41 of the BCCI Constitution and an inquiry against Pandya and Rahul has commenced.

Pandya described an incident when he took his family out for a party and they asked him which women he had a "scene" with, referring to the women Pandya had hooked up with. "We are still waiting for a decision to be made".

He however insisted that the controversy won't affect the team's dressing room morale.
