Jayme Closs kidnap: Suspect Jake Patterson 'saw her on school bus'

Jayme Closs case: Suspect saw parents as 'barrier' to kidnapping

WKOW reports he allegedly told investigators that he did not know who she was or who else lived at her home. The complaint says Jayme was kept up to 12 hours at a time with no food, water or bathroom breaks.

Smart, who is married and now 31, said that although the details of Jayme's ordeal have not been released, the fact that the girl "rescued herself" speaks volumes of her strength.

Her aunts say they're surrounding Jayme Closs with love and attention.

"I didn't want her to know I thought my place wasn't safe, because I wanted her to be calm", Nutter told CBS.

Smart told investigators she was raped daily and threatened with death if she tried to escape.

"We believe Jayme was the target, and he was getting rid of possible barriers to taking her", Fitzgerald said.

Ownership of a remote cabin where a Wisconsin teenager was apparently held during a almost 3-month disappearance passed to a credit union soon after the girl's abduction. She was missing for nearly three months before a woman walking her dog near Gordon, Wisconsin, found her on the road.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, is set to make his initial appearance Monday afternoon in Barron County Circuit Court. He says Jayme showed him the room where she is staying with an aunt in Barron, Wisconsin.

It came as photographs emerged of the rural house in Wisconsin where she was held prisoner.

Patterson was arrested last Thursday in Gordon, Wisconsin.

Police officers arrested 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson minutes later based on Jayme's description of his vehicle.

Nutter knew of the girl's disappearance, which was reported nationally, and intensely so in the state.

Almost three years ago, Patterson worked for one day at the same meat products facility where Jayme's parents worked - the Jennie-O Turkey Store plant in Barron - the company's president said. According to investigators, Patterson never had contact with the Closs family prior to the kidnapping, online or in-person. "So, the good news is kids are found far more than they used to be".

"Right now at this point in time, I feel that it's very, very vital for her to build those relationships with her family because, unfortunately, her family was brutally torn apart", Smart said.

The same night authorities discovered Jayme missing three months ago, police found her parents James and Denise Closs shot dead in their home. She teaches science to middle and high school students, and she remembered one middle schooler named Jake Patterson.

Authorities have said they don't believe Patterson crossed paths with Jayme's parents there.

Public defenders Charles Glynn and Richard Jones say it's been an emotional time for the community of Barron, and they understand the pain the case has generated.

Fitzgerald said it's not clear whether Patterson, who is unemployed, owns the home, or how he kept Jayme there.

Her church family wants to make sure she knows she has support in the coming days, weeks, months and even years ahead.

The murders of James and Denise Closs on October 15 and disappearance of their young daughter shook the Barron community to its core.

Charging documents could shed more light on the case.

Patterson's attorneys held a news conference Sunday after speaking with their client.

The sheriff also said Friday that it appeared Patterson "concealed her from other people ... his friends".
