Jennifer Lopez Defends Heavily Criticized Grammys Motown Tribute

People were already puzzled when news that J. Lo would be performing the tribute and by the time she took the stage, music fans were waiting to see if she would pull it off.

Yet the 49-year-old superstar was the one who sexily led the Motown Records tribute at the 2019 Grammy Awards - so, naturally, people were upset about it.

"Hey man, Motown was music for everybody".

Lopez and her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, recently completed an epic 10-day no carb, no sugar diet, and it turns out she tried the intense regimen for a reason.

But that's fine, Lopez said post-performance, "It was for my mom".

When you think of today's artists who were influenced by Motown, Jennifer Lopez probably doesn't come to mind. However, if you ask a mid-60's black dude from Detroit, they may not agree, and that seems to be the general consensus on Twitter. "Mommy, this is for you because we used to dance around to this music", she told E! ahead of her performance.

"This summer I decided I wanted to do something big for my birthday, since it's a big birthday", she says. It was frightful, the antithesis to everything Motown ever represented.

By the way, it's Black History Month.

"We got a little fixer upper next to the water, and we were like, 'Oh, we gotta fix this up, it's really a house that needs work, '" Lopez explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday. As The Root pointed out, "Kelly Price was busy?" We know Beyoncé would've been impossible to get, but did anyone try?

While on the show, the 49-year-old songstress also revealed that she's embarking upon a US tour in honor of her upcoming 50th birthday!
