President Trump ready to end the Korean War, Biegun says

US President Donald Trump and the US national intelligence director Dan Coats

Trump is expected to meet with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, next month for a second meeting on nuclear weapons.

It has been reported that the meeting will take place in Vietnam, with three candidate cities under consideration.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office Thursday, President Donald Trump again emphasized that his administration has made progress with North Korea.

"We're going to announce it pretty soon".

He also said that "a tremendous amount of good things" were happening in the US-led fight against ISIS.

Special Representative Stephen Biegun, who is in charge of day-to-day negotiations with the North, said the declaration will be required to acknowledge complete denuclearization of the regime.

Albright, who served as ambassador to the United Nations and secretary of State under former President Clinton, infamously said in 1996 that the price of the estimated 500,000 Iraqi children who died as a result of US-backed UN sanctions against Baghdad were worth it.

US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said: "We continue to assess that Iran is not now undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities we judge necessary to produce a nuclear device".

They also challenged Trump's claim that Tehran is actively seeking nuclear weapons, the justification the president gave for withdrawing previous year from a multilateral treaty on Iran.

Biegun's comment referred to the unprecedented meeting last June between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump in the wealthy Asian city-state. "Second of all, third of all, you know how well we're doing with North Korea, what's that?'" Trump said.

But Trump wants this the conflict with North Korea to end, he added, saying, "It is over".

"I am absolutely convinced, and more importantly the President of the United States is convinced, that it's time to move past 70 years of war and hostility in the Korean Peninsula. Since ending the bad Iran Nuclear Deal, they are MUCH different, but.a source of potential danger and conflict".

Mr Biegun said the past 25 years of talks had shown that the possibility of failure was great, and stressed: "We need to have contingencies if the diplomatic process fails - which we do". The meeting produced a document in which Kim pledged to work toward the "denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula". "That is correct. We didn't say we won't do anything until you do everything", he said.

Further to that end, in the question and answer session, Biegun added that the USA would sustain the pressure campaign that typified US policy in 2017 but that the administration would "have to find the right balance between those two".

In December, North Korea state media released a statement, saying the country would not dismantle its nuclear weapons until the US withdrew its forces from the region - its clearest definition yet of denuclearization, but something the USA has said it will not do.

Biegun said the US still does not know what those measures would be, but hopes to find out soon.
