Sheriff: MMA fighter facing 'pending murder charges' escapes

Fugitive former MMA fighter Cedric Marks is considered

Marks has three pending murder charges against him, authorities said, adding that he is considered to be "extremely unsafe".

Apparently, when the Montgomery County sheriff's deputies stopped for food at a McDonald's, Marks, a veteran of almost 60 MMA fights, seized his opportunity as he was able to escape and is still on the run as of this writing.

The prisoner, identified as Cedric Joseph Marks, was last seen in the area of the 800 block of North Loop 336 West, authorities said. He was wearing an orange jumpsuit and restraints when he fled.

McGinnis said murder warrants were issued Sunday for Marks in last month's killings of an ex-girlfriend, Jenna Scott, and a friend of hers, Michael Swearingin, who disappeared January 4 and were found buried in a shallow grave in Clearview, Okla., on January 15.

He has multiple charges against him, but Temple Police Department has only confirmed a first-degree burglary of a habitation charge filed against him for the alleged August break-in into Scott's home.

Marks has been in custody for three pending murder charges, and he is a professional MMA fighter, Montgomery County authorities said. The Montgomery County (Texas) Sheriff's office did not reveal which three murder charges Marks is facing.

Police in Bloomington, Minnesota, say Marks remains a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of April Pease, who was the mother of one of his children. He was being extradited to Bell County to face that charge when he escaped.

Scott requested a protective order against Marks last July accusing him of choking her unconscious twice, Temple television station KCEN reported. She is missing from Bloomington, Minn., and has not been heard from since.

Cedric Marks had been in transport from MI since January 31.

Maya Maxwell, 26, was arrested and charged after she told police that she tried to hide Swearingin's vehicle in the Austin area after his disappearance.

Ginell McDonough, who is Marks' wife and the mother of two of his two children, is jailed in Muskegon County, Michigan, on an obstruction of justice charge. His last fight was in September of a year ago. Anyone who spots Marks is asked to contact law enforcement immediately.
