Warren kicks off 2020 campaign with big-name endorsement

Sen. Elizabeth Warren waves at the crowd ahead of a campaign rally in Lawrence Massachusetts

Warren announced her campaign in her home state of MA at a mill site where largely immigrant factory workers went on strike about 100 years ago, a fitting forum for the longtime consumer advocate to advance her platform. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) - introduced Warren Saturday and revealed his endorsement of Warren.

Warren was the first high-profile Democrat to signal interest in running for the White House, forming an exploratory committee on New Year's Eve.

In the announcement, she called President Trump "the latest - and most extreme - symptom of what's gone wrong in America".

Arguing that the struggles mill workers faced 100 years ago are similar to those million of American families face today, Warren said she - like the women of Lawrence - is here to say "enough is enough" and take her fight for USA middle class workers to the White House.

"Our fight is for big structural change", Warren continued.

"This is the fight of our lives".

In the shadow of long-unused smoke stacks, at the site of a famous factory strike more than a century ago, Elizabeth Warren formally launched her presidential bid.

Warren's nascent campaign has been plagued with controversy over a DNA test she took in the fall to show that she has some Native American heritage.

The Massachusetts Democrat, a leader of the party's progressive wing, made her announcement from a historic site in Lawrence, northwest of Boston, that launched the USA organized labor movement.

While Vennochi's intentions may be to find the best candidate to beat Trump in the next election, doesn't she realize that every candidate on the Democratic side will be exposed by the Republican attack machine as having some so-called fatal flaw? According to multiple sources familiar with the plans, Kennedy will discuss why he believes Warren's record on economic issues should set her apart from the rest of the ballooning 2020 presidential field. Viewed alongside a new proposal from Sanders to hike the estate tax, Warren has positioned herself at the center of the progressive push to reduce corporate influence in Washington and economic inequality across the country. "I am in that fight all the way", Warren said. "I want to know what people are going to do to fix the issues that matters that we face". A statement from his campaign manager Brad Parscale said, "The American people will reject her dishonest campaign". "I think the story needs to come back to more of that, which is hard in this day and age".

Some Democrats encouraged Warren to challenge Hillary Clinton for the party's presidential nomination in 2016, but she demurred.

Even before she had taken to the stage, President Donald Trump's 2020 campaign team had responded calling her a fraud.

Since launching her exploratory committee, Warren has traveled to Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Puerto Rico to meet with voters and test out her 2020 message.

Three of her fellow senators also are running - Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Kamala Harris of California and Cory Booker of New Jersey - with others actively considering it. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is set to announce her plans on Sunday.
