49 dead in New Zealand mosque shootings

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Australian authorities were investigating any links between the country and the attack but declined to provide further details about the gunman

London's Mayor Sadiq Khan and Britain's top counter-terror officer said the police presence would be stepped up as people went to Friday prayers.

Forty-nine people were killed and 20 seriously injured in the shootings, which the Prime Minister has described as a "terrorist attack".

The Russian Embassy in New Zealand said that preliminary inquiry showed that there were no Russian citizens among the victims of the mass shootings, adding that further details were being clarified.

"Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrendous terrorist attack against Muslim worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand today".

The man who claimed responsibility for the shooting said he came to New Zealand only to plan and train for the attack. He then witnessed people running from the mosque completely terrorized.

"You may have chosen us - we utterly reject and condemn you". "We're also removing any praise or support for the crime and the shooter or shooters as soon as we're aware", she said.

Police urged both the media and public to "show restraint" and not share it.

New Zealand Police provided an update on the investigation, announcing that evacuations had been ordered at a residence in the city of Dunedin.

When the death toll stood at 40, it was known that 30 people were killed at the Masjid Al Noor mosque in central Christchurch, seven were killed inside the suburban Linwood Masjid Mosque, and three died outside the same mosque.

It's also requesting extra police patrols at their mosque in Old Irving Park, their education center in Morton Grove, and their campus in Skokie.
