Trump must enter Venezuela 'if he wants to be re-elected' in 2020

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said in remarks on Tuesday that the U.S.'s decision to deploy military forces to Puerto Rico and Colombia was a sign they are soon preparing to remove Maduro by force.

Reuters quoted diplomats as saying the USA version is likely to receive the required nine votes in the council but is expected to fail due to a Russian veto.

More than 3 million Venezuelans have fled their homeland in recent years in search of food, medicine and opportunities elsewhere in the region.

Resolutions at the Security Council, which are legally binding, must garner nine votes to be adopted, with no vetoes from the five permanent members - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.

He said that the world should back Guaido and "address the destabilizing results of Maduro's corrupt, fraudulent and incompetent reign, which just this weekend brought instability and violence" to the borders of Brazil and Colombia.

Guaido met U.S. Vice President Mike Pence at a Lima Group meeting with regional allies in Bogota on Monday, after which he said he would return home this week, despite having received threats.

Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro has repeatedly accused Washington of trying to orchestrate a coup ever since Guaido declared himself interim president last month.

"If Beijing and Moscow kill it off, the U.S. will claim the moral high ground", said Gowan, a senior fellow at the UN University Centre for Policy Research. "The only thing to discuss with Maduro at this point is the time and date for his departure", he said on Twitter.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, in a defiant interview with ABC News that aired Tuesday, said the USA government is fabricating a crisis to start a war in South America and Maduro does not trust "the people that are around" President Donald Trump.

"The transfer of U.S. special operations forces to Puerto Rico, the landing of United States forces in Colombia and other facts clearly indicate that the Pentagon is reinforcing the grouping of troops in the region for the objective of ousting the legally elected current president, Maduro", Patrushev said. It stresses the need to ensure the safety of all the members of Venezuela's National Assembly.

Guaido was to travel to Brasilia to meet President Jair Bolsonaro today.
