Allison Mack pleads guilty in NXIVM sex-trafficking case

Allison Mack Pleads Guilty to Sex Cult Charges

Fighting back tears, Mack said she had joined the organization, led by self-described spiritual guide Keith Raniere, a decade ago to find objective in life. She allegedly helped Raniere run a secret ring within the self-help group called DOS that reportedly engaged in beyond-the-pale activities like forcing women onto highly restrictive diets and even branding them with Raniere's initials.

After months of reflection since her arrest, she said: "I know I can and will be a better person".

"I must take full responsibility for my conduct".

Clare Bronfman, an heiress of the Seagram's liquor empire, arrives at the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse, for her trial regarding sex trafficking and racketeering related to the Nxivm cult in the Brooklyn borough of ny, U.S., January 9, 2019.

The actress had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, and wire fraud conspiracy, Yahoo News reported. Although the charges that Mack pleaded guilty to are both considered white collar crimes, these could net her up to a few decades in prison.

Mack, who is best known for her role as Clark Kent's friend in the television series "Smallville", was one of six defendants in a federal racketeering indictment filed a year ago against members of Nxivm. Kreuk, who also appeared on "Smallville", reportedly recruited Mack but later left the group. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released last July on $100-million bail.

Raniere, Seagram's liquor heiress Claire Bronfman and Nxivm accountant Kathy Russell also are facing charges in the case. Until the Salzmans' guilty pleas, officials and associates had repeatedly denied all wrongdoing and disputed allegations that it is a cult. Defense attorneys have insisted any relationship between Raniere and the alleged victims, including an unidentified actress and other women expected to testify against him at trial, was consensual.

Two members of Raniere's inner circle have pleaded guilty, while Mack and two other co-defendants are seeking separate trials.

Mr Raniere was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Mexico past year.
