Tom Brady saves 1st tweet for April Fools' Day: I'm retiring

Tom Brady

"In my spare time, I'll be tweeting #LFG".

In an April Fools' Day prank the rest of the National Football League wishes was real, Tom Brady joined Twitter to formally announce his retirement.

For nervous Patriots fans over the age of 50, LFG means "Let's f-king go". Unless you're Tom Brady and your first tweet is a retirement joke on April Fools Day.

Brady did post a touching tribute to his friend on Instagram last week, after Gronkowski announced his retirement, calling it "an honor and privilege" to have spent nine years with the 2010 second-round pick.

Of course, Brady isn't actually retiring and we know that because he admitted that his tweet was a joke, which came as good news for anyone out there who thought that maybe it wasn't a joke. So it was fairly obvious that Brady was just trying to fool people on the biggest day of the year to mess with fools.

Fortunately, many Twitter users were keenly aware of the date at the time of the tweet. Brady even wondered it himself.

This is somewhat surprising as Brady has a pretty impressive social media resume.
